“さっき甥っ子連れてコンビニに行って来た時の話
甥っ子は好きなアイスを一つ買ってあげる、と言うと目を輝かせて売り場に行き、
その間に私は目当てのものを買おうと棚を見ていた
すると甥っ子より少し大きいくらいの男の子二人に
「どけよ、おばさん」
と突き飛ばされてしまった
しゃがみ込んでいたのでバランスを崩し不覚にも横に倒れてしまった
その時、思わず出した声に甥っ子が走って来て男の子二人に体当たりした
「男は女の子に乱暴したらいけないんだ！」
普段から父親（私の兄）に言われている言葉を口にする甥っ子
でも、足は震えていた
「女の子には優しくしなきゃいけないんだ！」
周りに注目され男の子二人はそそくさとその場を立ち去った
仁王立ちのまま振り返り
「○○ちゃん（甥っ子は私をそう呼ぶ）大丈夫？」
と聞いて来た甥っ子
顔は立派でも足はガクガク
「大丈夫だよ、ありがとう」
と起き上がりながらお礼を言うと
「お兄ちゃんだもん」
と胸を張った
先一昨日、妹が生まれたばかり
「お兄ちゃん」をかなり意識している甥っ子

でも、やっぱり足は震えている。だけど顔はとっても誇らしげ
ご褒美だ、とコンビニの店長さんにおまけしてもらってにっこにこ
家に帰って早速パパとママに報告していた
