シンガポールに移転する企業や移住する人たちにとって、シンガポールは様々魅力を持っている。

　法人税率の低さが企業にとっての魅力だ、とよく取り上げられる。しかし、実は、それ以上に以下の2つが魅力的だ。

（1）欠損金の繰り延べが永久にできる。

（2）1カ月前に通知すれば、ほぼ自由に従業員を解雇できる。

（1）について、超単純化すれば、こういうことだ。例えば製造業がある年度に大型設備投資をして、100億円の赤字を計上したとする。その後、毎年1億円の黒字となっても、100億円の赤字を相殺するまで、つまり100年後まで税金を払わなくてもよい。

　ちなみに日本は、最大5年間までしか繰り延べを認めていない。法人税率が16％であることよりも、実質無税期間が長くなるこの制度を好んでシンガポールに移転する企業が多い。

（2）も、シンガポールの人気が高い隠れた要因である。世界中でこれほど簡単に「社員の首を切れる国」はない。いかなる理由であろうと、誰であろうと、1カ月前に告知すれば原則として解雇できるのだ。税制よりこの解雇の自由度を好んでシンガポールに拠点を移す企業も多い。
