目の研究

　科学者のメリッサ・ベイトソンらの研究によると、シンプルな目の絵を壁にかけるだけでも、社会的意識の高い行動を周囲に促す効果があるといいます。

　たとえば、ある実験では、コーヒーや紅茶を飲むたびにその代金をビンに入れる決まりになっている共用のスペースに絵を掛け、ある週は花の絵、次の週は目の絵、その次はまた別の花の絵、さらにまた別の目の絵というように、毎週掛け替えました。

　その結果、目の絵が掛けられていた週に利用者によって支払われた飲み物代が、花の絵の週の2.5倍以上も多かったのです。
