つまり、批判や失言を恐れメッセージを発信しないか、または固く人間味の無いメッセージしか発信しない、という態度が問題だ。
固い態度はメッセージの威力を弱める。ひどく清潔で公的でつまらないメッセージに、誰が面白さを感じてくれるだろうか。プレスリリース配信するときは怖い。けれどもソーシャルメディアはそこまで重いものではない。実際の対面コミュニケーションと同様、倫理的に問題でもない限りは、間違いを修正することも容易だ。
ソーシャルメディア利用には、担当者の成長が重要だ。ツイッターなどはまだまだ黎明期であり、失敗は許される空気がある。ツイッターでつまらない発言をしてしまうのは決して失敗ではない。 それよりも問題なのは、失敗を恐れて何も発言せずステークホルダーとコミュニケーションを取らない、という態度を貫くことだ。
