塩野七生　「十字軍物語」

第一次十字軍によって発見された「ロンギヌスの槍」について。

　だが、トゥールーズ伯サン・ジルは、「聖なる槍」を保持しつづける。しかし、この六年後に彼が死んだ後、なぜかこの「聖なる槍」は四本に増える。この四本の行方は、この種の聖遺物の運命を示して興味深い。

　そのうちの一本は、今なおアルメニアの教会に保存されているもので、パレスティーナから直接に持って来られた品と言われている。

　二本目は、第七次十字軍を率いたフランス王ルイ九世がパレスティーナから持ち帰ったとされる品だが、長年パリの教会に保存されてきたこれも、フランス革命の混乱の中で行方不明になった。

　三本目は、十五世紀末にオスマン・トルコのスルタンがときの法王に贈ったとされている品で、ヴァティカンのどこかにまだあるということだが、見た人はいない。

　最後の一本は今なおウィーンに保存され、唯一インターネット上に写真つきで紹介されている品である。一昔前までは、神聖ローマ帝国の権威を象徴する聖遺物として、大切に保存されていたのであった。
