ルネサス エレクトロニクス株式会社は14日、電池無しでセンサーからの情報をBluetoothや無線LANを使ってデータ送信できる近距離無線技術を開発したと発表した。

　今回の技術の要点は2つで、1つは電波間のS/N比を変えてセンサーから送信された情報を読み取る近距離無線技術、もう1つは環境電波(無線LANや携帯電話など)から強いエネルギーを持つ電波を自動で探して電気エネルギーに変換する発電技術。

　この2つを応用し、1m弱の通信距離で、センサーからの情報の送信を電池無しで行なえるようにした。通常のBluetoothや無線 LANは、消費電力が数十mW程度だが、今回の技術では数μWで済むという。このため、環境電波からの発電で賄える。ルネサスでは性能評価チップとアンテナを搭載したボードを試作し、数μWの電力でデータが送信できることを実証したという。

　今回の技術の応用例として、電卓をPCに近づけると計算結果をコピー&ペーストしたり、絆創膏に温度センサーとともに内蔵して体温データをスマートフォンなどに送るといった製品を挙げている。
