人は、「見えない」ものは「ない」ものだと思ってしまいやすい。「自分の立場からは見えないが、そこには何かしら存在しているのだろう」というふうに考えるのではなく、「存在しているのだろう」とすら考えられない。

ゲーム機や携帯に親しんでいない者からすると、ゲーム機や携帯を操作する者は「思考が見えない→思考がない→何も考えていない」というふうに思ってしまうのだろう。上の社説を書いた記者氏だって、固定電話で通話している人や、テレビを見ている人を見て、「大丈夫か」「現実から目をそむけているのではないか」などと思ったりはしないはずだ。それは、記者氏が固定電話やテレビには親しんでいて、それらの機器を使っている人の思考がわかるからである。

インターネットは、様々なものを可視化したが、逆にリアルの世界では、様々なものが不可視化されているのかもしれない。しかし、可視化されようと不可視化されようと、そこに存在しているものは変わらない。立場によって、認識できるものとできないものが違うだけで。
